Handshake is Northwestern State University’s online recruiting system that allows students 24/7 access to search for jobs and internships, make an appointment with Career Services staff and register for recruiting events.

Among the key features Handshake lists for recruiters and its 3.5 million student users:


  • Students can quickly build rich profiles, enjoy continual personalization of career recommendations based on interests and connections, and search 500,000 postings by 120,000 companies.
  • Employers can use multi-school postings, direct applicant filtering, powerful applicant filtering, and dedicated employer training and support.




To log in to Handshake, you will use your myNSU username and password (an account is created for you soon after you begin classes at NSU). Once you are logged in, you will need to activate your account by completing your profile and uploading a resume.

Welcome to the Career Services website at Northwestern State University of Louisiana System at Natchitoches, LA.  We assist NSU students and alumni plan, prepare and promote their careers.  We also partner with local and national employers to bring a variety of internships and jobs to our qualified applicant pool.  Our web pages are brimming with career-related advice and resources.  We are here to help you succeed!


Our mission is to assist qualified students in finding part-time, off-campus employment to supplement their income while attending Northwestern State University and to provide employment services to area employers.
All of our services are free to Northwestern State students and employers.


To register for JLD:

  1. You must be a current NSU student enrolled in a minimum of 6hrs, with a 2.0 GPA.
  2. If you meet those qualifications, complete the Online Application 
  3. Submit your resume and references along with the online application. 
  4. Come by the JLD Office, Student Union Room 306, if you need help creating a resume.  Sample Resume.Sample Resume.
  5. Once eligibility and references have been verified, you will be contacted to schedule an appointment for a pre-interview.
  6. After the pre-interview, you will begin receiving job postings via email.

The Job Location and Development program is a free service for NSU students and employers. The JLD office screens all applicants to ensure they have met program requirements, references are checked, and the JLD Officer conducts pre-interviews.  Once candidates are identified who meet your criteria, the JLD Officer forwards their resumes. Employers take over the hiring process from there.
